The Man Behind The Home

Nathan Home is the natural evolution of renowned designer Nathan Yong’s lifelong journey — one shaped by curiosity, craft & an enduring relationship with honesty & materials.

Born in 1970s Singapore, Nathan grew up with a mother who nurtured his inquisitive nature. He spent much of early childhood wandering free around the shipyard valleys along Tanjong Rhu, and growing up as a teenager within the shoe-box confines of government housing estates.

A Childhood of Curiosity

Since young, he was drawn to the sculptural forms of boats, rawness of wood and metal, and the silent stories held in inanimate objects.

This unfiltered exposure to industrial landscapes ignited a lifelong fascination with structure, function and materiality.

An Instinct Nurtured

Though he struggled academically in school, young Nathan found solace in drawing — mythical creatures, religious figures, imagined forms. It was an early indication of the emotional, intuitive approach to design that would later define his work.

A Signature Forged

At design school, under the mentorship of British designer Frank Drake, he was encouraged to see design not just as technical problem-solving, but as something deeply human.

It was a lesson that never left him.

An International Illuminary

Designer of the Year for the Singapore President Awards 2008, the city's highest accolade for creatives, Nathan Yong has built a career through honest, thoughtful design rooted in material behaviour and emotional resonance.

His acclaimed projects – from the Farewell to Reason No. 03 Chair to collaborations with international names Ligne Roset and Herman Miller, reflect his ability to find poetry in the narrative of our daily lives.

A Return to Roots

Nathan Home is a distillation of that journey. It is not just a furniture label—it is a reflection of Nathan’s life philosophy: to provide beauty through clarity, craftsmanship, and care.

Each collection is shaped by the values he has carried since childhood—respect for materials, thoughtful use of resources, and a deep appreciation for the imperfect and enduring.

An Honest Homecoming

Set within a historic black-and-white house in Seletar, Nathan Home invites guests into a more mindful and authentic rhythm of life.

The space, much like the collections within it, honours the past while pointing gently toward the future. It celebrates memory, material and meaning—offering timeless pieces and objects that are not only well made, but are meant to be loved for life.
